Bastard Chairs
German artist Michael Wolf spent years wandering the back alleys of Hong Kong and mainland China, photographing handmade DIY chairs patched together with scrap wood, rope, plastic, whatever happened to be nearby.
Part urban anthropology, part accidental design blog, Bastard Chairs became a fascinating look at how people adapt, repair, and improvise inside massive cities.
His dedication to documenting these disregarded objects even led to multiple detentions and confiscated film rolls by the authorities, which feels oddly poetic for a project about things the world usually overlooks.
