Sashiko Gals
I love when creativity and art become the solution.
The Otsuchi Sashiko Project began in 2011 as part of the recovery efforts following the Great East Japan Earthquake. Today, the “Sashiko Gals”, ranging in age from their 40s to their 80s, continue to keep the tradition of Sashiko alive in the Tohoku region.
With intricate stitching, they give new life to forgotten textiles, transforming what was once discarded into something beautiful and meaningful.
